Update on the children
It has been almost 6 months since the earthquake hit the country of Haiti, but hundreds of thousands of Haitians still struggle and suffer and most of Port-au-Prince remains in ruins. Over 1.5 million are still living under sheets and plastics in tent cities. I pray that God will place Haiti on the hearts and minds of His people around the world.
The children of OASIS orphanage are doing well in still adjusting to their new environment. As you know, the orphanage site was severely damaged in the earthquake which left the children homeless. Five weeks after the earthquake, we were able to find an orphanage, 5 hours Northeast of Port-au-Prince which opened their hearts and doors for our children to stay temporarily. They were able to go to a nearby school and have already become active in the neighborhood church. Despite the traumatic events they have been through; the children are doing fairly well. We are currently in the process of finding a place where the children can call home permanently, but this has proven to be a major challenge due the fact that most buildings and businesses are still in ruins.
I plan on going to Haiti in the beginning of August and also in October of 2010. It is our earnest prayer that during this trip, we will be able to find a place that the children can call home until we are able to raise funds to purchase land and build a new facility. We know that will not be an easy task, but we will work hard for these children to have a home so we can continue to provide an OASIS for the many forgotten, orphaned children of Haiti. I ask for you continued prayers and support in our future endeavors.
